The capital of Greece, and the heart of Ancient Greece, Athens is home to 3.75 million people.
Whilst the ancient remains are apparent everywhere – the iconic Acropolis, the Parthenon; and the historic Plaka district, the oldest section of the city for example – Athens has been hit with a wave of modernisation too.
Following the 2004 Olympics, Athens has welcomed a host of sophisticated restaurants, classy bars and upscale shopping; meaning you can enjoy the mixture of old and new.
Do you want to know what else is great about Athens? It’s cheap, too!
We partnered with Mummy and Boo, as they took on The Money Shop £200 Challenge to show just how cheap family travel can be.
Armed with £200 to cover themselves for the weekend (this included the cost of accommodation, but not flights); off Rosie and Boo went to Athens for 48 hours. You can find out more about the challenge here.
